? Profile

As a postpartum doula/lactation consultant I offer emotional, physical and informational support to new mothers. I have had considerable experience working with twins, preemies, adoptions, LGTB couples, first time mothers to eighth time mothers, since 1992, having worked with nearly 600 families in Oregon. As a new mom you can expect resources and/or direct care with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders as well as help with home management and organization of nursery and other areas of the house to make parenting more efficient and enjoyable.

My mission is to care for and educate the new mother and father so they can confidently nurture their baby. Anyone expecting their first baby or multiples can benefit from the expertise of a trained and certified doula and lactation consultant.

"Vicky York is such a life saver and a very nice person besides. After arriving home after a c-section I was having a lot of trouble latching my son on to nurse and I had a lot of pain in my breasts. My friend referred me to Vicky and she not only helped with latching on, but also with cutting my baby's finger nails, giving him a 7 min bath and showing me a really easy swaddle. Vicky has also been there for me over the phone countless times and I am so grateful to have found her.

"I cant say enough good things about Vicky. My husband and I had a terrible hospital experience, we were denied a lactation specialist, given terrible advice, and our baby was maimed by a careless nurse in the hospital that culminated with us leaving the hospital a day early and our new daughter needing 3 stitches. Our Doula suggested that we call Vicky to assist us with post partum care. When I called her at my wits end, I was in tears. Unable to nurse, feeling completely useless, I had no idea "   more...

I will never forget the first time Liz tried a breast pump. After a minute one drop of milk appeared at the tip of nipple and she looked at her husband smugly and confidantly and said "I make milk", with the emphasis on the "I". Vicky

"Vicky York was a nurse at the time of my daughter Julie's birth, at Vancouver Memorial Hospital in Vancouver Washington.
After Julie was born, in the nursery at the hospital, she was choking and turning colors. Julie's father was admiring her through the nursery window when this started to happen. Luckily Vicky was close by and came to Julie's aid. Vicky gently aspirated Julie and her choking stopped and her color came back. Because Julie was born C-section she still had mucus in her throat "   more...

"Vicky York is a superb doula and my husband and I give her the highest recommendation to anyone considering this invaluable service for new parents. If anyone asks a soon-to-be first time mother what she would want as a shower gift, I would recommend the doula services of Vicky York. For the very important time of breastfeeding twin newborns, teaching us new parents about newborn care at home, and helping resolve the situation of small gestational weight for our twins, she was there to help with"   more...

"I can't think of a kinder gift to give to anyone, including oneself, than a doula and this woman Vicky Yorke in particular. One needs tact, empathy galore, and a richness of knowledge to help moms through that most wonderful and sometimes most terrifying period of the first few weeks of matrescence, that time 'when a Woman becomes a Mother.'

I never thought when I invented the concept and the practice of The Doula that I had hit upon one of the most important behavioral periods in a mother ("   more...
