? Profile

As a postpartum doula/lactation consultant I offer emotional, physical and informational support to new mothers. I have had considerable experience working with twins, preemies, adoptions, LGTB couples, first time mothers to eighth time mothers, since 1992, having worked with nearly 600 families in Oregon. As a new mom you can expect resources and/or direct care with postpartum depression and other perinatal mood disorders as well as help with home management and organization of nursery and other areas of the house to make parenting more efficient and enjoyable.

My mission is to care for and educate the new mother and father so they can confidently nurture their baby. Anyone expecting their first baby or multiples can benefit from the expertise of a trained and certified doula and lactation consultant.

"Vicky came to our rescue! We were determined to breastfeed and had trouble off the bat. The nurses at the hospital pushed formula the day after our baby girl was born. After we met the lactation consultant at the hospital we decided to call Vicky. Although she was busy she fit us in and came by while we were still at Providence.

Vicky's visits in the early days were invaluable. Not only did we succeed in nursing, she was able to point things out to help with our newborn. Her advice an"   more...

"If you want to breastfeed, and you run into any problems at all, get help as quickly as you can. Whatever strategies you adopt will take a little while to get working, and you can’t overestimate how exhausted the birth and the first few days may leave you.

If you’re in Portland, we can’t recommend Vicky York highly enough. At several critical points she taught my wife and me new tricks that kept us going when we were close to giving up. She attended to our needs like a family member, even s"   more...

"I am a midwife recently turned mama and for the last year I have been referring clients to Vicky for postpartum support and breastfeeding assistance... an easy habit to create for the incredible feedback that new mamas have continually given me! Alas, with the recent birth of my son, I had the opportunity for my very own experience with Vicky's palpable passion for getting new families off to a good start! Vicky's sincere presence and honest ability to meet me where I was at were exactly what "   more...

"Vicky York is such a life saver and a very nice person besides. After arriving home after a c-section I was having a lot of trouble latching my son on to nurse and I had a lot of pain in my breasts. My friend referred me to Vicky and she not only helped with latching on, but also with cutting my baby's finger nails, giving him a 7 min bath and showing me a really easy swaddle. Vicky has also been there for me over the phone countless times and I am so grateful to have found her.

"I cant say enough good things about Vicky. My husband and I had a terrible hospital experience, we were denied a lactation specialist, given terrible advice, and our baby was maimed by a careless nurse in the hospital that culminated with us leaving the hospital a day early and our new daughter needing 3 stitches. Our Doula suggested that we call Vicky to assist us with post partum care. When I called her at my wits end, I was in tears. Unable to nurse, feeling completely useless, I had no idea "   more...

Postee's Comment

I will never forget the first time Liz tried a breast pump. After a minute one drop of milk appeared at the tip of nipple and she looked at her husband smugly and confidantly and said "I make milk", with the emphasis on the "I". Vicky
