Vincent Akhimie has spent his career as a dedicated civil servant. Vincent Akhimie studied civil engineering at the University of Washington, where he earned a BS and an MS in the subject. Vincent Akhimie also completed 50 hours of additional training in civil engineering as a PhD candidate at the University of Michigan while simultaneously working for the City of Ann Arbor. Vincent Akhimie later moved on to posts in New Jersey, Connecticut, the Chicago Metropolitan Area, and various cities and counties in Florida (Miami Beach, Oviedo, and DeSoto and Polk Counties). As Director of Traffic and Parking in Stamford, Connecticut, Vincent Akhimie took on some of New England’s most complicated traffic flow issues. During his tenure as Public Works Director in Miami Beach, Vincent Akhimie played a key role in the city’s Boardwalk Beautification Project, enhancing a 24-block area of centrally located beach. Other enhancement projects successfully managed by Vincent Akhimie include reconstruction of the Lincoln Road Mall and work in the North Shore and Venetian Island communities, also in Miami Beach. Vincent Akhimie has been a licensed engineer in several states, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, and Florida. Dedicated to the advancement of his profession, Vincent Akhimie is affiliated with the American Water Works Association, the American Public Works Association, the Florida Water Environment Association, and the Florida City and County Managers Association. Additionally, Vincent Akhimie completed a program in Public Management at Florida State University and is a Certified Public Manager. Now a resident of Lakeland, Florida, Vincent Akhimie contributes to the United Way of Palm Beach County to support education, health care, and career opportunities for all. Earlier involved with Lions Club International, the Rotary Club of Miami Beach, the YMCA, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Vincent Akhimie continues to engage with fellow community members by organizing and participating in doubles tennis.
