Hector Botero serves as vice president of emerging markets for Marketwire, a fully integrated North America-based global newswire. Hector Botero has held the position since the beginning of 2008.
At Marketwire, Hector Botero is in charge of developing and implementing growth strategies for the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, India, Russia and Middle East regions. The service delivers its clients' news to the world's media and financial communities, fulfilling North American disclosure requirements in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Hector Botero came to Marketwire when the company acquired his firm, International Media Services, a leading news distribution and media management organization serving emerging markets. The acquisition was announced in January 2008.
Hector Botero founded IMS in1996, going on to lead the company for 11 years. Under his guidance, the IMS Group became the holding company for an inter-related group of enterprises in the fields of news, media, information, public and investor relations and emerging markets. From 1997 until 2007 IMS was affiliated with Business Wire and operated as Business Wire Latin America and Business Wire China.
IMS’ financial news service, NoticiasFinancieras, is produced in association with more than 40 of the largest newspaper/publishing groups in Latin America. NoticiasFinancieras includes media research, database services, vertical press release news wires and a variety of other related lines of business.
In 2004, Hector Botero successfully led and participated in a management buyout of the largest public and investor relations software services company in Latin America, of Brazil-based Comunique-se, with more than 120,000 registered journalists.
Business Wire was, in its turn, acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2005.
From 2004 to 2007, Hector Botero served as president of Business Wire China. During his four years at the helm, Hector Botero was responsible for creating and implementing strategic development plans for Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. During that time, Hector Botero negotiated operational agreements with the government of China and registered a Shanghai-based representative office on behalf of IMS.
Before turning his attention to China, Hector Botero led Business Wire Latin America. He served as president of the firm from 1997 to 2007. Over the course of 11 years, Hector Botero created a corporate news release and public relations services network spanning Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean on behalf of IMS, mainly to provide services to leading industry clients such as Business Wire, a Berkshire Hathaway company. Hector Botero worked with Business Wire to build a substantial customer base of Fortune 1000 companies.
Prior to founding IMS, Hector Botero served as president of a firm called Conservation and Management International. This non-profit, non-governmental organization produced media strategies and communications programs for the United Nations Environment Programme - Regional Office for Latin America.
Hector Botero currently resides in Miami with his wife, Roxanne, and their two daughters.
