| Mr. Alex Groothuis brings 15 years of experience in coaching to his current position as Head Coach of the Palm Beach Community College Division I men’s basketball team. Alex Groothuis became Head Basketball Coach in 2009 after serving as an Assistant to former Coach Tony Sheals. In his position, Coach Groothuis oversees all aspects of the Palm Beach Community College basketball program, including recruiting, scouting, workouts, and weight training. Alex Groothuis also monitors administrative issues such as budget concerns and his players’ academic performance. In addition to his coaching position, Alex Groothuis currently serves as Physical Education Teacher for West Boca High School in Boca Raton, Florida. Over the course of his long career, Alex Groothuis has coached at high schools, colleges, and camps throughout the United States. Alex Groothuis’ first collegiate-level coaching position came as an assistant coach for Brooklyn College. In the summer of 2001, Alex Groothuis joined Head Coach Herb Brown as an Assistant to the Maccabi USA team, which participated in the Maccabiah Games in Israel. Alex Groothuis has remained close to the Maccabi program and recently provided his services to team coach Bruce Pearl. Upon returning from Israel in 2001, Alex Groothuis assumed the position of Assistant Coach with Wagner College before becoming the Director of Basketball Operations for Fordham University. After two years, Alex Groothuis transitioned into an assistant coaching position with Fordham University, before moving from New York to Florida, where he currently lives and works. In 2008, Alex Groothuis served as Co-head Coach of the 15 and Under Nike Team Florida AAU team, which comprised twelve Division I prospects and held a #1 national ranking in 15 and Under competition. Prior to beginning his professional coaching career, Alex Groothuis earned his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from Syracuse University. Currently, Alex Groothuis is seeking his Master’s degree in Physical Education from Queens College, where he maintains a sterling 3.75 GPA.
