Michael Lee Carlson
I have been a Licensed Insurance Agent in the State of Texas since 1985. I am licensed as a General Lines Agent in Property and Casualty Insurance and Life, Accident, Health and HMO Insurance. I have been a Licensed Risk Manager in the State of Texas since 1993. I have previously been licensed as a Real Estate Broker in Texas and at one time had my Series 7, Securities License.
I have founded three different Property and Casualty Agencies: Waggoner and Westmoreland Insurance Agency, Automotive Parts and Service Agency and DIMI Insurance Agency. I have also founded and operated a life and health insurance agency: Benefit Designers of Texas. At the present time, I own and operate NonSubscribers.com and Carlson and Associates. NonSubscribers.com helps Texas Insurance Agents place Occupational Accident Insurance. This insurance is a non-statutory policy that somewhat mimics certain coverage’s of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Policy. It is designed for those Texas Businesses that have opted out of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act. It is not Workers’ Compensation but it does provide differing levels of benefits to injured workers. Carlson and Associates help high income and high net worth individuals protect their assets and preserve their wealth. Just recently I co-authored and self-published a book: Wealth Preservation 101.
I have worked for Members Insurance Company, Sentry Insurance Company, McCall, Hibler and Allen Insurance Agency, The Dodson Group, The Automotive Wholesalers of Texas (Now Automotive Parts and Service Association) and Time Insurance Agency. While employed by the Automotive Wholesalers of Texas, I managed a Health Insurance Trust. This trust sold health insurance to association members. We also did the monthly billing and paid claims. During this time we collected over $500,000 worth of premium per month for health insurance. I oversaw the closure of the Claims Department and its subsequent transfer of claims paying to American Heritage Insurance Company. I also instigated and completed the transfer of 300 member companies from American Heritage Insurance to The Federated Insurance Group. The change was from a partially self-funded health insurance group to a fully insured health insurance group. This protected the corpus of the Insurance Trust, which had investments and cash totaling over two million dollars. This trust is still in operation today. The Dodson Group was a direct marketing group that primarily sold Workers’ Compensation Insurance to members of associations. I sold Workers’ Compensation to members of: Automotive Wholesalers of Texas, Texas Retailers Association, Texas Florist Association, Automotive Service Association, Texas Pharmacy Association, and many other trade associations.
This work experience has given me a vast and varied knowledge of insurance. In the past few years, I have focused on Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Accident insurance. I perform Worker Compensation and General Liability audits for clients. I also examine their Worker Compensation experience modifiers to determine the accuracy of the modifier. This involves the examination of payrolls, Workers’ Compensation class codes and Workers’ Compensation claims. I have also helped institute Return to Work programs for clients.
I have completed the studies and passed the exams required for the following designations: Certified Insurance Counselor and Certified Work Comp Advisor. I do not claim these designations at this time.
I recently completed the studies and passed the exams for the Certified Wealth Preservation Planner. I have served as an expert witness in a Workers’ Compensation Fraud Case.
