Grandmaster Dong's Martial Arts in Morehead City, NC offers traditional, Korean martial arts instruction for ages four and up in a safe, non-competitive, family atmosphere. The school is owned by Phillip and Shannon Henry and is one of more than 30 schools in the USA, Australia and Costa Rica teaching Grandmaster Dong’s Advanced World Martial Arts System. Master Phillip Henry is a 5th degree black belt in three styles of Korean Martial Arts, a certified personal trainer and an Optimal Performance Trainer for Youth. Master Henry has weekly, personal contact with Grandmaster Dong and passes this knowledge directly to his students to ensure the quality and authenticity of our program. We also offer a separate viewing area for parents not taking class. This area features free WiFi, HDTV, magazines, games, comfortable furniture and more. Relax while you wait.
Grandmaster Dong’s Martial Arts School was founded by Grandmaster Seung Gyoo Dong. Grandmaster Dong is a 9th degree black belt and has studied several styles of martial arts including the most advanced style, Um Yang Do. After serving as the Korean Air Force headquarters instructor in 1967, he moved to America to continue his college education and opened his first school in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1971. He later relocated his Headquarters branch to Richmond. Grandmaster Dong gained world recognition when he was featured on the cover of Tae Kwon Do magazine in 1989. An author of three books, Progressive Sparring, Sparring Structure and Where is My Black Belt?, he also has a eight video series which includes all the color belt requirements and the advanced black belt series, Progressive Sparring I and II. In November 1999, he competed in a grand master level, invitation only tournament in Taque, Korea where he won the title “King of the World” for speed breaking. He has successfully trained more than 6000 black belts in his martial arts career as well as forty masters and has more than 30 branches nationwide and one in Australia. Grandmaster Dong’s Martial Arts Schools have also raised over $300,000 for the Children’s Hospital.
