An inspiring college volleyball coach and former secondary school educator and coach, Stephanie Burner was a successful athlete and student in high school and college. Stephanie Burner’s decision to pursue sports, teaching, and coaching as vocations has led to her receipt of significant recognition in all arenas. A talented athlete all her life, Stephanie Burner was a top player in several sports at Upper St. Clair High in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While in high school, Stephanie Burner achieved an impressive array of records and honors while playing and serving as Tri-Sport Captain on the basketball, volleyball, and softball teams. In addition, Stephanie Burner was a top-performing student. Her many accomplishments contributed to Stephanie Burner being awarded her school’s most coveted student athlete scholarship for Most Outstanding Athlete. From high school, Stephanie Burner went on to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where she was a standout player and team captain on that school’s championship volleyball team. While at Edinboro University, where she graduated magna cum laude in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education (Social Studies), Stephanie Burner was named Athlete of the Year, ranked in the nation’s top eight defensive players in 2002, named MVP in volleyball for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference in 2001, and identified as a Scholar Athlete every year of her undergraduate career. In addition, Stephanie Burner was nominated for Academic All-American in 2000, 2001, and 2002. After graduating from college, Stephanie Burner began her professional career working with young adults as a high school volleyball coach and teacher. At Bellwood-Antis High School in Bellwood, Pennsylvania, Stephanie Burner taught high school civics, U.S. and Pennsylvania history, and economics; moreover, she became a certified member of the STAR (Students at Risk) program. As a coach at the high school, Stephanie Burner maintained an impressive record of wins and records, guiding her team to championships in the Mountain Conference and to participation in state tournaments, finishing fifth overall in the state of Pennsylvania in the 2004/2005 school year. Stephanie Burner is currently the Head Volleyball Coach at California University of Pennsylvania, arriving there after a successful transition from high school to college coaching as Assistant Volleyball Coach at the University of North Alabama. Stephanie Burner’s philosophy as a coach is to foster trust as well as individual responsibility. As an inspiring role model herself and one young enough to be tuned in to the challenges her team players face, Stephanie Burner brings to her position an energy, discipline, and vision, as well as a love for and knowledge of sports and a dedication to her players, that will ensure her continued rise in her chosen field of college athletics. In addition to her demanding position as head coach of a college team, Stephanie Burner has volunteered as a coach to youth teams and joined in Habitat for Humanity building projects. Stephanie Burner has generously supported both the American Red Cross and the Bellwood Fire and Police Development fund. Away from work, Stephanie Burner enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and whitewater rafting.
