| Kuhane Blackburn will begin his formal education in architecture at Georgia's Savannah College of Art and Design in 2010, but the 17-year-old Hawaii native already has a number of accomplishments under his belt in various endeavors. A lifelong assistant in his mother's Mauna Kea Galleries, Kuhane Blackburn has been integral in assembling its impressive collection of Polynesian and Hawaiian ephemera. The Galleries' works vary from vintage surfboards and posters to centuries-old stones and Koa wood furniture, as well as rare Ming jewelry and many diverse artifacts from all of the Islands of Polynesia. Kuhane Blackburn's creative talent was encouraged and nurtured by his father Mark, a writer, and his mother Carolyn, an interior designer. They granted Kuhane the opportunity to attend the Taliesin summer program at Frank Lloyd Wright's School of Architecture. During his studies there, Kuhane Blackburn was able to meet John Rattenbury and Julius Schulman, both influential figures in the field of architecture. Kuhane Blackburn divides his leisure time between the Sierra Club and the Hawaii Audubon Society, taking care of the local Wedge-tailed Shearwater birds and ensuring their continued federal protection. Blackburn's yearly dedication to the cleaning of Black Point Road's Freeman lot earned him and his family multiple recognitions from the Journal of the Hawaii Audubon Society.
