| A respected politician, community leader, and champion of the disadvantaged, Michael Garcia has earned widespread attention for his altruism and service to the people. Profiled and featured numerous times in print and broadcast media, Michael Garcia has made a positive impact on Coloradans in the Denver metropolitan area and elsewhere. As a four-term Colorado State Representative for House District 42, Michael Garcia devoted his time and energy to various projects and causes. In the wake of the slayings of Javad Marshall Fields and his fiancée, Vivian Wolfe, in Aurora, Colorado, Michael Garcia introduced House Bill 1379 to provide state protection for murder witnesses. Michael Garcia, along with other state representatives and senators, created the bill to establish funding for a witness protection program, supply security to persons giving sworn eyewitness testimony, and provide training to district attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and others at least once per year. Garcia’s work on this law earned coverage on the CBS 4 Denver News. ABC 7 News in Denver broke the story of Michael Garcia’s proposal to move up the Colorado primary from March to February 5th, a measure that ultimately passed into law. Michael Garcia helped Colorado join several other states on “Super Duper Tuesday,” giving Colorado voters a stronger and more relevant voice in national elections. Michael Garcia brought several pieces of legislation before the Colorado House of Representatives regarding services for developmentally disabled adults and children. As Chair of the Interim Committee on Long-term Care Services and Supports for Persons with Developmental Disabilities, Michael Garcia introduced a half-cent sales tax increase proposal in 2007 to fund public health care services for the mentally handicapped. Although Michael Garcia’s bill did not pass, it garnered positive media coverage throughout Colorado.
