City council member Lance MacLean believes “the public interest relies on the personal integrity of those elected to office.” As a public representative of the city of Mission Viejo, MacLean works for the best interests of his community. From ensuring fiscal responsibility to promoting public services, MacLean commits his governance to strengthening the city.
Involved in his community both inside and outside of government service, Lance MacLean and his family moved to Mission Viejo in 1993 because of its reputation for good schools, youth sports, low crime rate, and fantastic neighborhood parks. MacLean works with the El Toro Re-Use Planning Authority as a committee member and the Mission Viejo Activities Committee as vice president, as well as participates in the Lake Mission Viejo Association as a district delegate. During his council member tenure, MacLean has increased city reserves to over $30 million and attracted and retained community businesses to boost economic development. Working extensively with law enforcement, ambulance, and fire services, MacLean has helped prepare the city to respond to community emergencies better and brought Mission Viejo to be titled the safest large city in California. Lance MacLean also improved traffic congestion by coordinating traffic signals and enhancing many of the city’s open spaces and parks for the community’s enjoyment.
MacLean was first elected to Mission Viejo city council in 2002, and in 2006, he was voted in for a second term. During this time, MacLean also served as mayor pro tempore in 2005 and 2009 and as mayor in 2006. Currently, MacLean is a member of the city council and will run again in 2010. The Orange County Professional Firefighters Association and numerous local and statewide government officials have previously endorsed Lance MacLean. In his continuing effort to improve city safety, transportation, and recreation, Lance MacLean is extending support for law enforcement and aid response, increasing the number of positive youth events in the city, and establishing a road works project to widen congested streets and coordinate traffic signals.
A Southern California native, MacLean graduated with two Bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Economics from the University of California, Irvine and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach. MacLean is a Pi Alpha Alpha National Honor Society member for exceptional service in Public Administration. Promoting family-oriented values in his council membership, Lance MacLean volunteers as an AYSO soccer coach and referee and NJB youth basketball coach.
