A seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience dealing with at-risk and troubled youth, Nancy Thomas has built a name for herself by teaching children how to love and parents how to give. Mrs. Thomas has been extremely active in the field, founding summer camps, writing books, producing a successful CD/DVD set, speaking at conferences, and teaching at universities around the world, especially the United States and Great Britain. The achievements Nancy Thomas has made in the area of interacting with troubled and at-risk youth have earned her multiple accolades from her contemporaries and peers.
Nancy Thomas began working with troubled children as a Therapeutic Parenting Specialist in 1974. Later, she became a Professional Therapeutic Parent, taking children with severe emotional problems into her own home, alongside her husband, Jerry. Through her tireless efforts to foster bonding and develop consciences in these children, Thomas has been able to turn lives around, and her success rate is one of the highest in the country.
Nancy Thomas’ book, “When Love is Not Enough: A Guide to Parenting Children with Reactive Attachment Disorder” has educated countless parents on how to handle their emotionally disturbed children. Mrs. Thomas has also leant her writing prowess and knowledge to “The Handbook of Attachment Interventions” as a co-author. Beyond her own writing, Nancy Thomas has been written about and appeared in numerous national and local publications, including the American Psychological Association’s “APA Monitor.”
Today, Nancy Thomas continues to welcome at-risk and emotionally disturbed children into her Glenwood Springs, Colorado home. She also frequently travels abroad to Great Britain, where she organizes summer camps that allow children and parents to come together in a healthy environment.
