Mr. Paul Pelosi, Jr. serves on the Board of Advisors of the Canadian Research and Development Office of the AirPatrol Corporation. AirPatrol is a Wireless Threat Management firm dedicated to securing the data protection of businesses and government agencies against the encroaching dangers facing information networks stored electronically. AirPatrol protects networks from present and future wireless threats that have been known to compromise the security of both wireless and wired data transmissions.
Paul Pelosi, Jr. is also a member of the Board of Directors of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Astrobotic Technology. The leadership of Astrobotic Technology combines top robotic technologists, space and defense mission experts, and leaders in commercial space enterprises. As a board member, Paul Pelosi works with Chairman and Chief Technical Officer Dr. William “Red” Whittaker.
Dr. William Whittaker is a leading world expert on building robots with the intelligence to select their own path through unstructured environments. Dr. Whittaker recently won the 2007 Urban Challenge (sponsored by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) with an SUV able to handle city traffic without a driver at the wheel and currently executes a pivotal NASA research contract for a future lunar drilling robot. Dr. Whittaker has proven extremely successful at meeting government data needs, having won more than 80 contracts from NASA, the U.S. Energy Deptartment, and the Defense Department.
Astrobotic Technology has recently made headlines due to its pledge to participate in the so-called “Google Lunar X” challenge. As a member of Astrobotic Technology’s Board of Directors, Paul Pelosi, Jr. hopes to lend advisement and directive services to the private company as it endeavors to extend robotic services to the Earth’s moon.
In addition to his work in the technology sector, Mr. Paul Pelosi, Jr. is the current President of the Environment Commission of the San Francisco, California Department of the Environment. As President, Mr. Paul Pelosi heads the seven-member commission, which is credited with setting the city’s Department of the Environment policy, and directs the committee in developing programs and advising San Francisco’s Mayor and Board of Supervisors. He was reappointed in 2005 by Mayor Gavin Newsom and has served as president for the past 3 years. Under Mr. Pelosi’s leadership, the Commission has been at the forefront of environmental policies including partnering with utilities to implement energy efficiency programs resulting in a reduction of 28 megawatts in electricity, increasing residential and commercial recycling from 46% to 70%, and reducing carbon emissions to 6% below 1990 levels. With the helo of the Environment Commission, San Francisco was the first municipality to implement a ban on plastic bags.
Currently, Paul Pelosi divides his time between NASA Ames and advising city government entities on issues pertaining to the environment.
