Karen DeSoto has excelled in various positions within the legal community. As a Criminal Defense Attorney with Hunterdon County, New Jersey’s Office of the Public Defender, Ms. DeSoto was responsible for representing indigent criminal defendants on indictable offenses through trial and appellate review. As a Municipal Public Defender in Raritan Borough and North Plainfield, New Jersey, DeSoto represented indigent defendants charged with offenses carrying the possibility of incarceration. With a small Somerset County-based firm, Ms. DeSoto represented clients in both criminal and civil litigation, concentrating primarily in criminal defense work and employment discrimination. From 1999 to the present, Karen DeSoto served as a television legal analyst, while continuing to hold various esteemed positions within the legal community.
While working with the City of Jersey City as an Assistant Corporation Counsel and later Chief Corporation Counsel, and also maintaining her own practice (Law Offices of Karen F. DeSoto), Ms. DeSoto has frequently appeared as a media commentator on national legal news and trials. Seen weekly on MSNBC and annually on Court TV, Ms. DeSoto’s position as a television analyst includes responsibilities such as interviewing guests and correspondents regarding breaking news on high profile cases, and discussing fact-specific legal strategy and theories with anchors and viewers. Karen DeSoto, Esq. has maintained steady leadership positions in the legal realm through her various career explorations. DeSoto began her legal career after receiving her Juris Doctorate from Temple University School of Law in 1996, and her Master’s of Laws from the same Philadelphia institution in May of 2000.
