Profile
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) student Dominic Scali is working his way through college as a waiter at the top-rated new steakhouse StripSTEAK in the Mandalay Bay Hotel. Dominic Scali began his education at UNLV in 2001, where he studied pre-med. By 2004, Scali had experienced a change of heart and switched majors to follow his true passion: entrepreneurship. His killer instinct combined with his passion for learning give Scali the edge and drive he needs to accomplish his unthinkable goal of completing five bachelors’ degrees by fall 2009. Once his goal has been met, Dominic’s portfolio will consist of degrees in Real Estate, Marketing, International Business, Entrepreneurship, and Management, which he will have obtained in only five years of study.
In 2004, Dominic Scali was featured in the ABC reality television program “The Benefactor,” starring Mark Cuban. The competition pitted 16 young entrepreneurs against each other for the chance at winning $1 million dollars in start-up money. Dominic lasted the entire series, placing as runner-up in the final episode. Although Dominic did not walk away with the seed money, he was the lucky recipient of a scholarship program set up by Mark Cuban. Mark saw the “fearless” nature Dominic possessed and wasted no time putting Dominic on a Scholarship program that recently concluded.
A devoted student, Dominic Scali currently holds a 3.6 cumulative GPA, and he has been a member of the National Honor Society since 2002 and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars since 2004. Mr. Scali is also a member of the American Marketing Association, Alpha Kappa Psi, Toastmasters, and the UNLV chapter of Music and Entertainment Industry Student Association (MEiSA), of which he is the Vice President and Co-Founder along with fellow student and President Stacey Aragon. MEiSA is comprised of students looking for both experience and opportunities in the music and entertainment industries, and MEiSA-LV strives to promote a higher standard for members’ philanthropic activity in their community, as well as bring students with an interest in the field together with music and entertainment professionals and mentors. By using some celebrity influence, Scali and Aragon look not only to make the organization a local success, but also to receive national attention, making it possible for members to receive the Outstanding MEiSA Chapter Award.
Recently, Dominic Scali and fellow student Tracy Marquart founded the social club UNLV Nightlife. The club is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and alumni and features both nightlife and community service excursions. The benefits of belonging to UNLV Nightlife are twofold: members gain privileged access to all the best Night Club/Entertainment spots in Las Vegas and have access to creative and fun opportunities to serve the greater Las Vegas area, through which UNLV Nightlife affiliates gain recognition in the Night Club/Entertainment scene.
As an employee at StripSTEAK, Dominic Scali combines his enthusiastic personality with his sincere desire to help others to provide an upscale dining experience befitting of a restaurant of StripSTEAK’s caliber. Mr. Scali enjoys helping people in other ways as well. He volunteers four times a month helping to clean up the litter and graffiti that often plagues his Las Vegas community. He has also volunteered at events for the Children’s Heart Foundation and donated time and money to The Voice Foundation, which was founded by his employer: MGM Mirage.
In his free time, Dominic Scali enjoys keeping fit, both physically and mentally. An avid reader, Mr. Scali reads numerous financial publications and considers Ernest Hemingway and Stephen D. Leavitt among his favorite authors. Mr. Scali stays healthy by participating in a variety of sports, including swimming, tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, soccer, football, bowling, and running.
