Mark Donohue is a progressive business leader and the founding entrepreneur behind Expansion Capital Partners, a venture capital firm known for growth companies in the “clean technology” sector.
A graduate of Babson College’s class of 1988, with a major in Investment Management, Mr. Mark Donohue founded Expansion Capital Partners in 2001. An industry leader in the Cleantech Venture Capital field, Expansion Capital Partners funds firms that develop technology using raw materials (such as water and energy) more efficiently than the current generation of resources, while creating reduced pollution and/or toxicity. Beyond environmental benefits, Expansion Capital also reviews practices regarding employee policies, stakeholder relations, ethics and other areas that determine if the business is a “triple-bottom-line” enterprise - focused on People, Profit and the Planet.
After investing the initial capital and developing the business plan for Expansion Capital Partners, Mark Donohue oversaw nearly all aspects of the firm’s operations, including fundraising, deal origination, marketing, and deal execution. He developed a world-class team. Following the completion of Mr. Mark Donohue’s retirement from Expansion Capital, in June 2008, Mr. Donohue was honored by his colleagues and permanently named Chairman Emeritus.
Despite his financial success, Mr. Mark Donohue is not “all business.” He is a leading educator for sustainability via his teaching at Babson College. Mark Donohue illustrates his commitment by serving as a mentor to students in his community, teaching them how to become better stewards of our planet. He is also active in the lives of the next generation in his family, via his six nieces and nephews and two Godchildren.
