In 1996, the ministerial expert R.C. Sproul Jr. stayed busy with various ventures.
Sproul’s efforts paid off in September of that year, when the Saint Peter Presbyterian Church opened its doors. At first he began as the church’s senior pastor, and remained in that position until 2001, when he became the associate pastor of teaching. Since its inception, the congregation at Saint Peter Presbyterian Church has grown to about fifty families.
Also in September, Mr. Sproul—fully functioning as an ordained minister—founded the Highlands Study Center, which is located in Bristol, Virginia. At the center, R.C. Sproul Jr. facilitates Christian education and works as a teacher and a chairman at the Highlands Study Center. R.C. Sproul Jr. is in charge of teaching, writing, leading, and raising funds.
Sproul was the editor in chief for the monthly Christian education magazine Ligonier Ministries, based in Orlando, Florida. He edited content for the magazine and managed a staff of three people. The magazine had a subscription base of about 70,000 readers, and received multiple awards from the Evangelical Press Association. R.C. Sproul Jr. worked at Ligonier Ministries from September of 1993 to December of 2003.
R.C. Sproul Jr.’s dedicated service in the ministry also extends to his community. At one point Sproul spent several years as president of the board of directors of a crisis pregnancy center in Florida. Sproul also volunteers as a guest speaker at fundraising events for the crisis pregnancy center.
R.C. Sproul Jr. received his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Whitefield Theological Seminary in May of 2001.
As a popular author, R.C. Sproul Jr. has written and published more than ten books and numerous articles and essays. Mr. Sproul is also a regular contributor at two national magazines.
