“I spent twenty years as a professional photographer working in the Boston area.
Although I still love photography and do it today, I've never been completely or creatively satisfied with the restrictive limitations of light and the lens. Painting and sculpture were options, but they too, seemed limited and restricted by physical laws and tools, thus blocking my imaginative visions. When I began to use the computer to bring my photography and creativity to a higher level in 1991, I was hooked and looked forward to the creative possibilities ahead for expressing myself.
A number of years later, I began to use 3D illustration and paint tools at my own marketing communications firm, Synergy Network, Inc. I created photo realistic product illustrations for clients for products that did not yet exist in the real world. With my background in lighting and composition, I could make 3D illustrations that my clients thought were actual photographs.
While working for clients during the day, I explored the possibilities of these new tools for making artwork at night. I succeeded in making new and breathtaking images unlike anything I had ever seen before in the art world. My artwork was shown in several galleries in and around the Boston area and also at the first Boston CyberArts Festival in 1999.
In 2003 I moved with my family to Clearwater, FL and established Menaul Fine Art.
My abstract artwork is created using 3D illustration and "natural media" paint and illustration tools on the computer. I print my artwork myself in my studio on a gale printer specifically designed for fine art printing on canvas using pigmented inks. I sign and number them as multiple originals in limited editions. Most of my pieces can be viewed on my website at Menaul Art dot com, although they are much more satisfying to the eyes and touch in real life on canvas.
People may walk into a gallery or my home worried about a problem or condition in life. After looking at my artwork they leave looking refreshed and more full of life. Whatever they were worried about doesn’t seem as big and they leave in a better emotional state to improve things.
My personal drive is to create aesthetic images that make people happy. There is no greater joy for me than to see someone looking at my artwork and being elevated into higher emotional states.
Art elevates the human spirit and makes living more enjoyable. It stimulates our own creativity and gets us thinking of things that we wouldn't have otherwise thought of or imagined."
