William G. Begel is a successful and highly regarded physical education instructor. Over the years, Begel has demonstrated that he effectively leads by example: he has served his country by working for the Army through various positions as a Director with a strong understanding of physical fitness. In 23 years, William G. Begel was able to put the knowledge he earned to use with his degree in physical education, while taking part in one of his biggest passions— sports.

From the late 70’s to the 80’s, William G. Begel held a variety of fitness coordinator positions during his time at the Army. He started working for the armed forces in 1976, where he served as the Physical Fitness Specialist and Sports Director for the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. In two years, William G. Begel transferred to Arlington Hall Station in Virginia. At Arlington, he served as the Director of Physical Fitness and Sports Director. In two years, Begel was promoted again and relocated to Alexandria.

In 1980, upon being promoted, William G. Begel worked as an Army sports specialist for the Army Headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. He administered the conduct of the Army Sports Program, and was in charge of overseeing the Army-wide Outdoor Recreation Program. Begel also held responsibility for analyzing the overall development, direction, and administration of all of the sports and outdoor recreational activities. It was not long until Begel would be transferred again, this time to the HQ Army Morale, Welfare and Recreation Business Operations. He earned the title of Director of the Army Golf Program. For most of the 80’s, William G. Begel would be responsible for directing the business operations of over 100 Army Golf Clubs worldwide. He became solely be in charge of managing the policies, programs, staffing, funding, and training.

Throughout the 90’s, William G. Begel spent most of the decade as the Director of the Armed Forces Sports Program. He also served as the Secretariat to the Armed Forces Sports Council and reported to the Assistant Secretary of Defense. Some of the matters that Begel tackled were issues related to the World Class military Athletes participating in National, International, and Olympic Games. Following his years as a Director of all things related to physical activities, William G. Begel entered the world of business, joining the Cherner Automotive Group, Cherner Lincoln Mercury of Annandale, VA.
