Seattle’s Kenneth A. Burr is well-versed in speaking and listening. A noted public speaker who has held seminars all over the country, Ken serves as a counselor as well: he is not only the president but also the owner of the Seattle-based Life Cycle Family Counseling. He specializes in providing resolutions for problems related to couples and families, as well as depression, and anxiety issues for individuals. He also specializes in areas of sexual orientation and spirituality.
Ken Burr is a progressive minister who is also gay-friendly: He has written a book titled “Coming Out, Coming Home, Making Room for Gay Spirituality” due out in early 2009. As an ordained minister with the American Baptist Churches USA, Burr resides over memorial services as well as wedding ceremonies.
Ken Burr’s spiritual career officially began at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he earned his Master’s in Theology and Biblical Studies. At Seattle Pacific College, Burr obtained his Bachelor’s in Biology. Burr later studied Marriage and Family Therapy at Presbyterian Counseling Services and received post-graduate certification. Kenneth Burr eventually became the senior pastor at the Lynnwood Free Methodist Church. For years, the church struggled with short-term pastors and a shrinking congregation. The church’s exterior received an upgrade with a new paint job and new signs, to list a few of the positive changes that Ken brought on. Then he, among others, changed worship practices to more accurately reflect a growing and changing community. Ken Burr preached on a weekly basis, hired and trained staff, organized committees, and led the board meetings. At one point, Burr's church provided day care services for more than 120 children and an additional staff of 30 child care workers, illustrating his compassion for the community
At the same time, Burr was also a staff pastor at Strength for the Journey, United Methodist Church’s outreach program for people living with AIDS.
Establishing himself as not only a progressive evangelical and avid counselor, Kenneth A. Burr is also an experienced businessman; he owned and managed Honey Dew Nursery in Renton, WA, which was featured on the cover of a horticulture magazine.
