Profile
If you live in the State of Colorado, you may be familiar with the name of attorney Gary E. Merenstein. Merenstein was a force behind the Colorado Supreme Court decision of Flood v. Mercantile Adjustment Bureau, the landmark case that held that debt collectors must comply with the standards set forth in the decision in order for debt collectors to be in compliance with the requirements under the Colorado Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Because of this landmark case, debt collectors must clearly disclose certain consumer legal rights in the collectors’ initial validation notices provided to consumers. Gary Merenstein has also co-counseled approximately fifteen consumer protection class action cases covering a wide variety of consumer protection issues involving unfair trade practices, truth in lending act violations, mortgage abuses, and abusive debt collection.
Gary E. Merenstein attended the University of Colorado, Stetson College of Law in St Petersburg, Florida, and the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He received degrees in American Studies, his JD, and a Masters Degree in Tax Law. In 1990, Gary launched his own law practice, “Gary Merenstein, Attorney at Law” in Boulder, Colorado. He is a versatile attorney, and is highly qualified to represent people in consumer protection, conservatorship, guardianship, tax law, mental health law, and class action litigation. Merenstein is a member of the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the National Association of Consumer Advocates and the National Legal Aid & Defender Association.
Mr. Merenstein continues to work in his own law practice, but still spends time doing many things he loves. Gary’s hobbies include being active in the outdoors by skiing and hiking. He also enjoys running and weight lifting. Gary E. Merenstein also spends his leisure time as an amateur investigative historian, and is also an amateur human rights researcher.
