Profile
Cheryl A. Shibley has been drawing ever since she was in elementary school. Her early drawings were mostly of flowers and wildlife.
It was not unusual for Cheryl to grab a sketchbook, and just start drawing. Cheryl's early drawings were done using a #2 graphite school pencil. Her first choice of medium is Prisma color pencils. She fell in love with Prisma's because of their ability to lay down and blend together and create a wide range of color arrangement.
At first Cheryl thought colored pencil was kid stuff. When she saw the unbelievable works done in colored pencils by other artists, she just had to give them a try. Using colored pencil helps her pay attention to the finer details of art. Also to achieve a multitude of colors from layering.
Although a self-taught artist, Cheryl spent time studying the works, techniques, and styles of other artists by reading books. One of the best resource books that is basic and simple to understand is - Lee Hammond's big book of Drawing by Lee Hammond. This book is still a valuable asset in her private collection, and she still will read it from time to time. The book in particular has provided Cheryl with the basic foundation to develop her own unique style.
Cheryl has been married to Kevin M. Shibley I for 23 years. They have three children. Kevin II, Julie, and Christian. She and her family attend the Cornerstone United Pentecostal Church in Winchester, VA. They presently reside in the state of West Virginia.
