Sam Gyimah was born in the UK and grew up in Ghana. At the age of 16, he moved back to the UK. He read PPE at University of Oxford and was President of the Oxford Union.
Sam Gyimah started his career in investment banking at Goldman Sachs. At Goldman, Gyimah succeeded in the Mergers and Acquisitions and Equities Divisions as he worked on some of the largest mergers in the UK, including the £100 billion merger of Glaxo Welcome and Smithkline Beecham.
At the age of 26, Sam started his first venture which he grew to a team of 70 members and had a turnover of £10 million in three years. The work would later on pay off for Sam Gyimah, as he would be awarded the 2005 CBI's 'Entrepreneur of the Future' award.
In 2006, Sam launched his second business, the virtual community known as Workology.com. Workology is devoted to individuals interested in controlling their professional lives. Gyimah’s second business went live in Spring 2008 and continues to be backed some of his associates from Goldman.
Prior to all the success in his business endeavors, Sam Gyimah was once a Governor of an inner London comprehensive, on the Board of Nacro, a Housing Association, and is at the moment on the Development Board for Somerville College, Oxford. In addition, Gyimah was also the Chairman of the prominent think tank, the Bow Group, and editor of 'From the ashes…' an anthology of essays that included contributions from high profile politicians, journalists and businessmen. The book focused on the future of the Conservative Party.
Beyond business, Gyimah has been known to be a supporter of the Holloway-based, Arsenal Football Club. Furthermore, he also enjoys cooking and running.
