Profile
After spending several years as a senior trainer at Scotland's top educational training company, The Learning Game, Jim left to pursue interests in digital educational game design and e-learning. Starting up his own consultancy, Technoludology, he specializes in the development of gameplay, interaction, user experience and narrative for websites and games with a purpose.
Recent projects include: research, development and design for the Scottish Institute of Biotechnology Education to create a nationwide networking game to celebrate Darwin's bi-centenary in 2009 - the game Pandemic! models the spread of a virus across the UK, combining video, social-networking and formal learning modules; gameplay and narrative for a 3D virtual environment for language-learning involving speech process language recognition (currently in stealth mode); and design, development and production of a cross-media platform ‘alternate reality game’, Tomorrow Calling. For the latter project Jim won the Grand Challenge contest at the Digital Earth Symposium 2007, for which he was sponsored by Google Earth to present his work at the symposium conference in Berkeley.
In addition to game design consultancy, Jim is currently Director of User Experience for ki work, a web start-up specializing in the sourcing and distribution of online work. He is also studying part-time for a Masters (MSc) in E-Learning from Edinburgh University.
