Amy Polumbo is this year's Miss New Jersey, and as such, juggles many simultaneous roles. Amy Polumbo holds the coveted title on a platform of Internet safety, and has dedicated much of her time to educating others on the importance of protecting oneself in cyberspace. As a 22-year-old college student who studies Drama at Wagner College, Miss Polumbo knows well the extent to which the Internet affects modern life. By giving lectures both at her own college at Wagner and New Jersey’s Rider University on the subject of Internet safety, Amy has proven her commitment to raising awareness on the subject of online self-protection. As the national spokeswoman for i-SAFE, the latest crowned “Miss” of the Garden State has extended her message of Internet safety across America—much to the benefit of those who hear her words.
Amy Polumbo was crowned Miss New Jersey at the close of her second pageant, the first being the Miss Seashore Line pageant which qualified her for the Miss New Jersey competition. Despite her lack of experience in pageantry, Amy Polumbo’s confidence, talent, and visible inner strength were clear to the judges who awarded her the New Jersey crown. Amy Polumbo is a remarkable beauty, but behind the veneer of her smiling face lies a past that was, at times, very difficult. Despite her young age, Amy has dealt with heartache in her life that many of her peers have yet to experience. At the age of twelve, Amy lost her father. Just a short time later in her life, Amy lost the full use of her singing voice for two years as a result of muscular tension dysphonia, a voice disorder that stripped her of her musical gift for a period.
Fortunately, Amy Polumbo overcame her voice disorder, and her singing voice today has been heard by thousands through her roles as Ariel in Walt Disney Entertainment’s Voyage of the Little Mermaid at MGM studios in Florida, as Maria in Cabaret For Life’s production of The Sound of Music, and through many other lead roles in musical theatre. Amy Polumbo won over the judges at the Miss New Jersey Competition with her heartfelt rendition of “Astonishing,” a theme from Broadway’s smash hit Little Women.
