Profile
My name is Susan McCool and I am a Virtual Assistant (VA). What is a VA? A VA is someone who assists companies, from the Small Business World to Corporate America, virtually, using e-mail, instant messenger, phones and faxes to communicate. A VA typically is a well-rounded individual that has been in the 'assistant' field before venturing out to their own business. A VA is able to assist his/her clients on a wide range of tasks.
Did I always want to be a VA? Not exactly. Up through the end of highschool I wanted to be a lawyer. My entire highschool curriculum was based on classes I needed to get into law school. I even attended a high school almost 2 hours from my home so that I could attend a special magnet program they offered - Criminal Justice. By the time I reached my senior year, I was living on my own and working all the hours the state allowed me to do. I was working at a local Vet Office as a kennel technician, which is just a fancy name for a pet caretaker. I stayed in this field for 4 years, advancing to Veterinarian Technician after 1 1/2 years. That is what started my love for medical science. I have often thought about going back to school to become a doctor or a biotechnician. However, I always decide it would not be fair to my children to be away from them so much, as I know these professions take a lot of time and dedication. Knowing I needed more than what other business owners wanted to offer me, I decided it was time for me to find my own niche and become an entrepeneur. So, I reflected and realized the best way to start a business is doing something you love. That is how Susan McCool's VA Services came to life.
In my spare time, I volunteer for the Endometriosis Research Center (www.endocenter.org) as their GirlTalk Program Director. GirlTalk is an international online support group for young women 25 and younger. It encourages our young members to take proactive steps in their health, education on the disease and awareness in their communities. My role as the Program Director is to moderate and oversee the online community, create new materials for the program (fliers, brochures, newsletters, presentations, etc.), and closely work with the Fundraising Director to implement and execute new fundraising techniques.
